Register Recreational Vehicles Early
to Avoid Memorial Day Weekend Rush

(Boise, ID) – The Ada County Assessor’s Office would like to remind recreationists who will be heading out to enjoy the upcoming Memorial Day weekend to get an early start on registering their recreational vehicles.

The Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer recreation activities for many Ada County residents. To avoid long lines at Motor Vehicles offices before heading out of town, RV, boat and ATV owners are highly encouraged to renew their recreational vehicle licenses as early as possible.

Idaho law requires annual registration renewal for motor homes, boats, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, and trailers (including horse trailers). Most recreational vehicle registrations expire on December 31st each year. Utility or boat trailers can be registered for up to 10 years, and street motorcycles for two years. Residents must bring their registration card or license plate number(s) with them when renewing, and for boats, must have the Coast Guard number located on the side of the boat. A valid Idaho driver’s license is also required for each registered owner.

The Assessor’s Office offers several convenient ways for residents to register their recreational vehicles:

·      ONLINE: Visit www.adaweb.net and click on the ‘Assessor’ link. Under the Motor Vehicle section, click on ‘Registration Renewal’. You MUST have the access code from your renewal card to renew your registration online. Note: Boats or any other equipment requiring an “Off Highway” sticker cannot be renewed online.

·      BY MAIL: Return the renewal card that the Ada County Assessor sent to you in December with the correct registration fee. Call 577-3135 to verify the correct registration fee. Allow up to 14 business days for mail registration.

·      OVER THE PHONE: Call 577-3135 and have your license plate number and your Visa or MasterCard ready. A 3-percent convenience fee will be added for registrations renewed over the telephone. Allow five days to receive registration stickers - or ask about our new “will-call” service.

·      IN PERSON: It’s often more convenient to register online, via mail, or over the phone, however, customers are always welcome to visit one of the five Motor Vehicles locations.

Owners who register in person will typically experience the shortest lines and wait times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Mondays and Fridays are typically the busiest days for Motor Vehicles offices in Ada County. Ada County’s five Motor Vehicles locations are open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit www.adacountyassessor.org for more information on Motor Vehicles registration and locations.

There are nearly 60,000 recreational vehicles registered in Ada County, so avoid the long lines and register early this year!
