Sharon M. Ullman
District 1 Commissioner
Ada County Commissioner Sharon M. Ullman was elected to serve a four-year term on the Ada County Board of Commissioners in November 2008 and proudly took the oath of office on January 12th, 2009. Sharon held the same District 1 Commission seat in 2001, during which time she focused on fiscal responsibility, public safety, government accountability and open access to the public. As a dedicated public servant, Sharon promises more of the same during her tenure as Ada County Commissioner.
Sharon Ullman has a long history as a public servant. She spent 17 years as a public advocate, working on a broad range of issues that impacted Ada County residents including lobbying for responsible sewer implementation rates, water and garbage collection rates, school and property tax reform, and – perhaps most importantly – openness in government. In 1999, Sharon was awarded the first-ever Max Dalton Open Government Award from the Idaho Newspaper Foundation for her advocacy of legislation to promote more transparent government for all Idaho citizens.
“Ada County residents can trust that I will stand up for what I believe is right and I will work to make sure that the public knows what is going on in Ada County government,” Sharon said. “I have a strong, consistent record of supporting both thriftiness and openness in government. It is my honor to serve the residents of Ada County once more.”
In continuing with her philosophy of open government, Sharon is committed to holding regularly scheduled Town Hall-style meetings in venues throughout Ada County to further help all county residents get involved in their local government. Sharon also regularly contributes to her own personal blog in an effort to keep Ada County residents informed of important Ada County issues.
As Ada County’s newest Commissioner, Sharon joins her two fellow Commissioners in setting the county’s budget, managing the county’s 13 individual governmental departments, and ensuring Ada County’s various ordinances meet the expectations of its residents.
Sharon graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1985 with a degree in Social Anthropology. She is the proud mother of six children: Emily-24, Kevin-22, Kelly-20, eleven-year-old twins - Michael and Melody, and six-year-old Angelina.
