ADA COUNTY AIR QUALITY INDEX
Each day, concentrations of various air pollutants are measured in areas across Idaho. A federal standard, or limit, has been established for each air pollutant. These limits are based on the health effects of the pollution and vary by type of pollutant.

WHAT IS ADA COUNTY DOING TO IMPROVE THE TREASURE VALLEY’S AIR QUALITY?
Ada County, through its policies, practices, and procedures is doing a great deal to improve Ada County’s air quality. Aside from belonging to the Ada County Air Quality Board, the county also works closely with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality to help educate Ada County residents about the impact poor air quality can have on our health, the environment, and our economy.
Below you will find a list of several Ada County programs and initiatives designed to help keep the air we breathe clean.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION METHODS
- Monetary incentive given to employees who participate in Commuter RideVan Pools
- Monetary incentive given to employees who participate in Valley Ride Inter-County Bus Service
- Free local bus passes for county employees
- Abundant use of bike racks on the courthouse complex
- “MyRide” computerized employee carpool system
- Use of hybrid vehicles in the county fleet
- Use of E-85 and other flex fuels in county-owned vehicles
- Promotes “May in Motion” alternative transportation week with prize offerings to employees who participate

COUNTY FACILITIES & SPECIALIZED CONSTRUCTION METHODS
- Vapor-capture system on new Meridian Fueling Station
- Indoor Air Plans for county buildings
- G2Energy Project at the Ada County Landfill captures and burns methane to generate green power
- Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility safely disposes of aerosols and other harmful airborne chemicals
- Five LEED certified county facilities that deploy design elements and equipment that:
- Establish and maintain good indoor air quality
- Use HVAC systems that do not contribute to outdoor air pollution
- Support ozone protection protocols
- Indoor air plans for county buildings
- Eliminate, reduce, and manage the sources of indoor air pollution
- Monitor indoor CO2 levels, humidity, and temperatures
- Undergo preventative maintenance and cleaning
- Proper air filtration and fresh air exchanges
- Protect indoor air quality during construction or remodeling
- Use low-emitting, low VOC materials and green cleaning products

- County purchasing policies encouraging the purchase of hybrid vehicles
- Green Building Resolution passed to ensure new county facilities and remodels are built to current green building standards
- Staff Energy Specialist maintains a structured program to monitor all county energy use and efficiency programs, such as:
