Meet The Assessor

Ada County Assessor Robert H. McQuade is a third-generation Idahoan and the son of Mary and Henry McQuade.

Bob learned to appreciate public service as he watched his father progress in his career, finally becoming Chief Justice of the Idaho State Supreme Court. Bob is a Capital High School alum, and graduated with a BA in Economics from George Mason University in 1979. Bob was soon hired as an Ada County Deputy Assessor. In 1983, he was named Manager of Personal Property Valuations. Bob was elected to a four-year term as Ada County Assessor in November, 1994. He added to his accomplishments by receiving his MBA from Boise State University in 1995.

Bob's proudest personal accomplishment, however, is marrying his wife, Jody, and raising his son, Rob.

To Bob, involvement in community and public affairs is a responsibility which is performed with enthusiasm outside the office as well. Bob served as a Precinct Committeeman and Co-Chair of the By Laws Committee for the Ada County Republican Party. He currently serves as president of the Idaho Association of County Assessors, has served as Treasurer of the Idaho Association of Assessment Personnel and as President of the Gary Lane Meadows Homeowners Association. He is a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers, is active in several civic organizations, including Rotary and Toastmasters International, and serves as a member of the St. Mary's Parish Council.

Under the McQuade Administration:

  • The Land Records Division has converted nearly all of its paper maps to electronic maps.
  • State-of-the-art technology in the Appraisal Division has vastly improved the accuracy and timeliness of the office's appraisal information.
  • Waiting lines at the Motor Vehicles Division have practically vanished.
  • In September, 1997, the International Association of Assessing Officers awarded the Ada County Assessor's Office with its Outstanding "Public Information Program Award", recognizing the office for "having developed and implemented an effective system for the dissemination to taxpayers of information on the assessment process."

The Assessor's duties are primarily described in two sources:

Idaho Code Title 63
Idaho State Tax Commission Property Tax Rules
