SECURING A LIQUOR CATERING PERMIT

WHY a permit?

Idaho Code, Title 23-93A governs the permit process.  A county permit is required for events serving liquor, beer, wine, or any combination thereof outside of city limits (the unincorporated portions of Ada County).  Within city boundaries contact the City Clerk.

WHERE to secure a permit

The Idaho Liquor Catering Permit application consists of an original and three self-carbon copies, therefore, it cannot be downloaded on the website. Forms are available from the Ada County Recorder’s Office, located at 200 W. Front Street in Boise.  The Recorder’s Office is on the first floor of the Courthouse.  Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Phone number: 287-6840.

WHEN to secure a permit

Present the Ada County Recorder the completed permit two weeks in advance of your event. Commissioners meet to approve catering permits on Tuesday of each week.  They are required to post 48-hour public notice in advance of meetings.  Therefore, to process the necessary paperwork, and meet the notice deadline, all catering permits must be into the Recorder prior to noon on Fridays.

HOW to secure a permit:

  • An organization or individual possessing a liquor license must be willing to allow you use of their license.  The signature of licensee (#5), and the liquor license number (#6) must be completed by the liquor license owner.
  • The group or individual requesting the permit completes lines #1 through 3, and section #4.
  • The Ada County Sheriff’s Office must also sign the completed permit (section #7) before returning the form to the Recorder’s Office.
  •  If the liquor-catering permit is approved, applicants may pick up their approved permit on Tuesday afternoon following the Commissioner’s Hearing.

COST:

A fee of $20.00 per day, not to exceed three consecutive days, is required at the time the catering permit is submitted to the County Recorder.
