Rick Yzaguirre
District 2 Commissioner
Ada County Commissioner Rick Yzaguirre currently represents District 2 on the Ada County Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Yzaguirre was re-elected to serve a four-year in 2004. Prior to his re-election, he served a two-year term on the board, which began in January 2003.
Public service is nothing new to Commissioner Yzaguirre. Before becoming an Ada County Commissioner, he devoted more than a decade of his life to serving the citizens of Eagle. Rick served as Eagle’s Mayor from 1997 to 2003. Prior to that, he spent eight years on the Eagle City Council. His transition to Eagle City Hall was a natural progression from the many years he served as an Eagle Fire Commissioner – a commitment that began for Yzaguirre back in 1987. In addition to his service to the city of Eagle, Commissioner Yzaguirre also held the title of President of the Association of Idaho Cities from 2001 to 2002.
“I am extremely proud to have been involved in many projects that, over the years, have greatly enhanced the Eagle community,” says Commissioner Yzaguirre. “As an Ada County Commissioner, I am continuing my commitment to public service by focusing my attention on projects that can positively impact all Ada County residents. The Treasure Valley is currently experiencing incredible growth. We need to ensure the decisions that are made today won’t adversely impact our future.”
Commissioner Yzaguirre currently holds several key leadership positions with many local agencies that are responsible for charting Ada County’s future. He currently sits on the Blueprint for Good Growth Board of Directors. He serves as a current board member and past chairman of the Community Planning Association and he represents his fellow Ada County Commissioners by serving as a member of the Treasure Valley Partnership. In addition to his service to those agencies and boards, Commissioner Yzaguirre also spends his time as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Treasure Valley Air Quality Board and has been appointed to sit on Governor Kempthorne’s Interim Committee on Air Quality. Commissioner Yzaguiree currently sits on the Valley Ride Board of Directors. He will continue to help map the future of public transportation in the Treasure Valley by serving as that agency’s Chairman next year.
Rick Yzaguirre brings solid business expertise to the Ada County Commission. Prior to becoming Commissioner, he owned and operated his own business in Eagle, for which he was presented the ‘Businessman of the Year’ Award on two separate occasions by the Eagle Chamber of Commerce.
“I grew up in the grocery business in the small Treasure Valley town of Marsing,” says Commissioner Yzaguirre. “I was raised in retail and decided to carry on the family tradition of ‘customer-service’ after college. The transition from entrepreneur to elected official was an easy one for me. I’ve spent 25 years serving people – from the customers who came into my store, to my constituents who trust me to help make the right decisions that impact Ada County. It’s work that I’m destined to do.”
After graduating from Marsing High School, Commissioner Yzaguirre graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. Rick and his wife Sandy moved to Eagle in 1984 with their three daughters who have since grown up and started their own lives. In the spring of 2006, Rick proudly added ‘grandfather’ to his list of titles with the birth of his first grandson.
