Remaining 2011 Property Tax Payments Due by June 20th

(Boise, ID) - The Ada County Treasurer’s Office would like to remind property owners that the second half of their 2011 property taxes are due on or before Wednesday, June 20, 2012 by 5:00 p.m.

The Treasurer’s Office indicates that sometimes lenders pay property taxes on an owner’s behalf, but homeowners should confirm with their lender whether they are directly responsible for making property tax payments.  Property owners who have refinanced within the last six months, should review their loan documents to determine if property taxes were paid at closing, or if property tax funds were sent to the lender at that time for later payment.

It is also important for property owners to note that when refinancing, the original lender often refunds the amount they were holding in escrow, but homeowners may not realize those funds were set aside for the purpose of making payment on property taxes.  Those who are uncertain if their lender makes a property tax payment on their behalf, can contact their lender or title company to find out.

There are several convenient methods for making property tax payments:

· In Person — Tax payments may be made in person, on the first floor of the Ada County Courthouse at 200 W. Front Street from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
· By Mail — Payments may be mailed to: Ada County Treasurer, P.O. Box 2868, Boise, ID 83701.
· Online or by Phone — Credit and debit card payments may be made online or by phone, for an additional user fee of 2.4%.  Credit card payments can be made by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX (1-800-272-9829; use Jurisdiction Code 2212).  Additionally, payments are accepted online by electronic check for a fee of $5 for payments up to $10,000, and $20 for payments over $10,000.  For more information, or to make credit card and e-check payments online, visit www.adaweb.net/treasurer.aspx and click on the “Tax Due Dates & Payment Options” link.

All tax payments, including electronic payments, must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20th.  To avoid any last-minute problems, it is recommended that electronic payments be made well in advance of the 5:00 p.m. cutoff time.  Mailed payments that are postmarked after June 20th are subject to a 2% late charge plus interest, which accrues at 1% per month beginning January 1, 2012.
