Green Buildings
Energy conservation and natural resource management has been a major priority for Ada County for many years. Our approach is to consolidate the planning, improve communication, and highlight the efforts and successes of the individuals and departments committed to protecting and improving our environment.
As members of the US Green Building Council, Ada County incorporates sustainable building practices into its construction and remodeling projects. In 2003, Ada County Commissioners signed the Green Building Resolution 1180 calling for all new construction and major retrofit projects for county facilities and buildings over 10,000 square feet of occupied space, to meet or exceed Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) standards.
- Ada County has the honor of having Idaho's first LEED-certified building. In March 2005 the Ada County Courthouse and Administration Building achieved a Silver level certification in the LEED-EB (Existing Building) category.
- The Development Services remodel project received a LEED-CI (Commercial Interiors) certification in March 2006.
- Two new Barber Park facilities, the Administrative Office / Raft Rental and the Maintenance buildings, also received LEED certification in 2006 with a LEED-NC (New Construction) in August.
- In June 2007, construction was completed of a new facility in Meridian, ID for the Weed, Pest, and Mosquito Abatement Department. This project earned the County's 4th LEED certification with a LEED-NC Silver in March 2008.
- In December 2007, construction was completed of a new Paramedics Response Station in Meridian, Idaho. LEED certification was received in July 2008 with another LEED-NC Silver, bringing the County's total to 5 LEED certifications.
