Ada County Weed Pest and Mosquito Abatement

Mosquito Abatement Treatment No Spray Program

In 2007, the Idaho Legislature revised Idaho Code to include a new provision that allows residents living within a Mosquito Abatement District to opt-out of the district’s control/treatment program.

As outlined in § 39-2804(10) of Idaho Code, a landowner requesting to exclude his property from the abatement district’s mosquito control program must submit a written Mosquito Management Plan specific to his property.  The detailed plan must provide adequate control measures and be implemented by the landowner.

Please be aware that if a landowner fails to follow his Mosquito Management Plan, or does not provide adequate control measures, the abatement district may abate the mosquitoes.  Further, pursuant to Idaho Code §39-2812 County Commissioners are authorized to initiate activities to respond to public health disasters and emergencies associated with an elevated or  anticipated pest populations that may constitute a risk to the public’s health and welfare.

In an effort to help landowners develop the required alternative mosquito control plan for their property, officials with the Ada County Mosquito Abatement District have provided the sample plans listed below.  These sample plans present control methods that are considered to be bare-minimum alternative control measures.  Mosquito abatement officials strongly encourage landowners to consider exploring additional mosquito control methods that could further enhance those provided in the sample plans.
