ADA COUNTY LAPTOP SECURITY GUIDE
Security Recommendations on all Ada County Owned Laptops:
- Use a bios/startup password
- Use a windows password
- Do not keep your passwords written down and with your laptop
- DO NOT SHARE YOUR PASSWORD WITH ANYONE
For Department/Office that maintains sensitive data on the Laptop
- Use an encryption software to protect your critical data

What to do if your laptop is missing:
- On/in Ada County Facilities
If you discover that your laptop is missing while in Ada County Facilities; Comply with Ada County policy on loss or theft of Ada County property. Call Ada County Information Technology and report the serial number of your laptop and who the laptop was assigned.
- Off/out Ada County Facilities
If you discover that your laptop is missing off site, report the loss to your local police. Make sure that you get a copy of the police report. As soon as possible, inform Ada County Information Technology and any other applicable agencies. Please note that in cases where a laptop was stolen as part of an incident involving other items such as a car, the report must itemize the laptop as one of the items stolen.
