Restitution Program

The restitution program in Ada County is effective. Many victims now benefit from the restitution program, which not only relieves their desperate situations, but also lets victims know the criminal justice system cares about them. This service is provided at a minimal cost to the taxpayer.

Restitution collection has a positive effect on the livelihood of victims, merchant’s prices, and insurance rates. Ada County collects about 65% of the restitution that is ordered. Defendants who have fled or who have been incarcerated for the protection of society owe the remaining 35%. This collection rate would be far lower if Ada County was not dedicated to collecting restitution.

Ada County Restitution Statistics:

  • Over 2000 restitution cases are currently open for collection.
  • Over 7,500 victims are currently owed money.
  • Over a million dollars will be collected this year.
  • Approximately $200,000 taxpayer cost per year.

Few other government programs reap this much reward at such minimal cost as the restitution program. Thanks to the dedication of the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the efforts of Probation and Parole, and the cooperation of the judiciary, our restitution program is believed to be one of the most successful in the nation.
