About Us

Weed Control

Orange Hawkweed Flower At the noxious weed control department, our goal is to prevent the spread of noxious weeds that damage our environment, safety, or economy. To this end, we do our best to find, map, and treat the noxious weeds that invade our county. While not every weed problem in Ada County has a solution at this time, we try to find safe, environmentally sound, economical, and effective weed control measures. Click here for a list of services we provide.

Pest Control

Rock Chuck Ada County provides a pest control service for gophers and rock-chucks, (Yellow bellied marmots) to the residents of Ada County who live outside of the city limits, and pay into the taxing district. Although they look harmless, these pests can cause significant damage. By burrowing tunnels through ditches, they can cause flooding or loss of irrigation water. They most commonly eat roots, killing the plants above.

Mosquito Abatement

Aedes vexans

Ada County assumed responsibility for the Mosquito abatement in October of 2004, when the district was expanded to take in more of the populated area of Ada County. This step was taken to protect the public from the threat of West Nile Virus, a disease of animals and people that is carried and transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

Ada County Weed Pest and Mosquito Abatement tries to be as ecologically sensitive as possible. We coordinate with a number of federal and state agencies to arrange for the rearing and distribution of biological control agents for weed control, and we utilize biological agents in mosquito abatement as much as possible. If you would like to know more about the work we do, we have a long-standing pubic education policy and would be happy to speak with you. We can be reached at (208) 577-4646, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. (except government holidays)
