Controlling the spread of noxious weeds is one of the departments primary objectives. Using ArcPad software installed on mobile devices, field crews are creating an inventory of locations of invasive and noxious weeds. Ada County Noxious Weed Control is collecting noxious weed data from other public land management agencies in the area as well. Once a comprehensive list of weed infestations in the county is developed, it will be used as a decision support tool in for weed management.

The final weed inventory layer will be used as a navigation, inspection, and treatment resource. Spatial analysis on the layer in GIS will determine priority species to treat, and protocols will be developed to ensure proper management strategies are followed. Custom geospatial tools will be developed in ArcPad that will allow field crews to efficiently manage their weed control activities, and herbicide applications will ultimately be integrally linked into these custom geospatial tools. This is a developing program, please contact Ada County Weed, Pest, and Mosquito Abatement for more details.
